Itinerary for October 24th Concert
 
Taylor Road 8th Grade and Chattahoochee Orchestra Program combined
TEAM LEADERS ARE IN Bold
3:30:  Go to cafeteria and Set up tables with tablecloths and ghost favors
3:45  Spook Committee (Ethan Hou, Gavril Lim, Ellie Kim, Hannah Suh, Bobby Maples) heads over to Taylor Road
4:15:  8th Graders Arrive    HS Students in place by 4:15!!!
ALL STUDENTS MUST BE IN ORCH HALLWAY TO CHEER FOR TAYLOR ROAD STUDENTS
 
Hallway Monitors in charge of Instrument Cases:  Peter Yi and John Stagmeier
Orchestra room:  Harrison Le and Farhan Valummel
 
  1.  Come in bus canopy, get cheered, Leave cases in hallway
  2. Go straight to the Auditorium for rehearsal.  Get on the stage.
  3. Chamber and 8th graders rehearse on the stage.
4:20-4:50:  Rehearsal for Brandenburg and The Faraway Place.   Then pack up.
While Chamber and 8th graders are rehearsing: 
  1. Sinfonietta is setting up the games and
  2. Concert Orchestra is setting up the cafeteria  
  3. Aliyah Man and Raiesha Bhuiyan will hang black tablecloths in the cafeteria entrance
  4. Table must be set up in the entrance to the cafeteria.  As students come in, they have to pick a lollipop and that determines their TEAM.  As soon as they pick it, they go to that table and get a ribbon in the proper color.  
  1. At the table:  Put ribbons on the wrists of all the 8th graders to represent their team.
  2. 5:00pm Pizza Dinner is served (Pizza, Water)for all  Cafeteria SET-UP:  Serena Darko  Cafeteria CLEAN UP:  Payal Singh  Cafeteria in the middle:  Natalie Palanza

6:30 All Students go get changed for concert
6:45 8th Graders get instruments from the cafeteria and head to the auditorium.  Sit in the back three rows.
Violins and Violas:  Keep your instruments and music with you.
Cello and Bass:  Put instruments on the floor in front of the stage and get them on your way up.
 
***6:55 ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE IN THE AUDITORIUM READY TO PERFORM***

Order of events for Chamber:

Sit WITH a student.  You sit in lead chair, they sit inside
Cases go in hallway outside orchestra/chorus/art
After rehearsal they will pack up their instruments and leave them in the hallway
  1.  Rehearsal is from 4:20-4:50
  2. 4:50:  Bring them to Cafeteria and let them pick a lollipop to get put on a team

    1. Make sure they get a ribbon that is the right color for their team. Tie it to their wrists.
    2. Talk about the Games during dinner. Explain the rules.
    3. Tell them how awesome high school orchestra is.  J

Order of events for Concert Orchestra
  1. 3:30 go to cafeteria to help set up.
  2. 4:15:  Be in Orch Hallway to greet them and cheer and a smile
  3. 4:20:  Help get 8th graders to the stage to rehearse
  4. While they are rehearsing;  GO TO THE CAFETERIA and start setting up
  5. Each table area is color matched.  Set up three tablecloths for each Team.  Place the mascot on the table in CLEAR VIEW.
  6. If you are running a game, GO TO THE TABLE THAT MATCHES YOUR FIRST TEAM:  Grab a quick bite, then head to your stations
    1. Make sure they get a ribbon that is the right color for their team. Tie it to their wrists.
    2. Talk about the Games during dinner. Explain the rules.
    3. Tell them how awesome high school orchestra is.  J
  7. If you are NOT running a game:  YOU ARE A SERVER.  Wear gloves and start plating pizza.
    1. Some plates get 2 slices, some just 1.
    2. Help pour drinks
    3. Deliver pizza and drinks to those who are seated.

Orchestras: 
Technique - We are working on improving our bow hand flexibility, shifting, and vibrato technique.
Scales:  3 octave C Major scales and corresponding arpeggios and 3 Octave C Melodic minor scales and arpeggios
Repertoire:  Concert Orchestra is working on the Fiddle Fest pack for our concert on September 7th, and also difficult scale passages for our new song Arabian Dreams.

Chamber Orchestra is working on the music for the Giving Bach concert that we will giving at Ocee Elementary school on Wednesday, August 23rd.  Here is the Itinerary:

Holiday concert is thursday, december 10th
at 7pm.  

Rehearsal will be directly after school.(Dinner is provided)  Uniform is required, but students may accessorize with hats, antlers, scarves...etc.

We are collaborating with the chorus for our Holiday Program this year!  

HOODies are in!!!

Stop by the orchestra room any time today to pick up your Orchestra Hoodie!!!

Paint supplies needed!!!

The paint is now in and a few items are needed.
1) Paint brushes and rollers
2) Dropclothes

If you have any extra of these items laying around please bring them in!!!

November 16-20 Update

This week the orchestras are continuing to prepare for our Holiday Program, which will be December 10th at 7pm in the Auditorium.  While preparing the music for our concert, we cover a number of DOE Georgia Performance Standards.

TECHNIQUE

1.  Scales   MHSAO.2 d, e, f,
     a.  Concert Orchestra is learning the 2 octave G Melodic Minor Scale and Arpeggio and reviewing the three octave C Major Scale and Arpeggio
     b.  Sinfonietta has added the 2 Octave G Melodic Minor scale and Arpeggio as well as the two octave G Chromatic Scale and the 1 Octave single string A Chromatic Scale.
     c.  Chamber Orchestra continues to review all three octave Scales, both Major and Melodic Minor, as well as Chromatic Scales.

REPERTOIRE

2.  Reading and Notating Music  MHSAO.3  All Orchestras are covering:
     a.  Learning how to read jazz swung rhythms and counting rhythms in 6/8 time
     b.  Learning how to read notes in different clefs with multi-meters
     c.  Learning how to execute different symbols for volume (tempo) and (dynamics)  speed.

3.  Cultural and Historical Context  MHSAO.8 b, c, d
     a.  We are comparing and contrasting different versions of the same song, and then making critical judgements about how to attain the style we deem superior.
     b.  Chamber Orchestra is learning the Baroque Style and what elements of the time period have specific bowings and articulations.
     c.  We are collaborating with the Chorus, so we are learning how to accompany artistically, and we are learning to perform and balance our Ensemble, by investigating the intricate relationship between melody and harmony.

Essential Vocabulary:
Martele, Detache, Legato, Staccato, Brush Stroke, Spiccato, Sul Tasto, Con Sordino, Ponticello,  Sfortzando, Subito Pianissimo.

Congratulations to all of our Honor Orchestra Participants!

Details:  
Monday night, Nov. 16th,  Meet in band room at 5:45.  Bus departs at 6:00pm for Centennial
Rehearsal is from 7 to 9pm.  Bus should arrive back here around 9:20ish.

Tomorrow:  (November 17th)
1.  Bring Uniform and Music Stand to school
2.  Bus Departs at 9am.  Rehearsals all day.  
3.  Bring Money for Lunch at Centennial (cafeteria)
4.  Dinner is Subway, and we ordered sandwiches for all of you
5.  Concert is 7pm.
YOU MUST GET A RIDE HOME FROM THE CONCERT.  THERE WILL BE NO BUS BACK TO CHATTAHOOCHEE.
